Porto Alegre means joyful harbor and is the capital and largest city of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil founded in 1769 by Manuel Sepúlveda. In 1772 Manuel signed a immigration act to get people from Azores, Portugal most of the population is European descent.

Porto has hosted many events such as World Social Forum, World Council of Churches, FISL, and 2014 FIFA World Cup as well with the 1950 one.

Most of Porto people are Catholic there is also Protestant, Jewish, Jehovah's Witnesses, Spiritist and some people with no religion. One of the main churches in Porto is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Porto has a night life with bars, pubs, restaurants and nightclubs where they play some of the most popular music in Brazil. Porto also has five universities. There is also casinos and two football teams in porto which are Grêmio FC and Internacional FC. There is also a gridiron football team in porto which are called Porto Alegre Pumpkins. The city hosted a UFC fight night and the 1963 Summer Universlade.
